WESTBOROUGH, MA (November 23, 1998) GeoWeb, the Web-based Public Access Catalog available from Geac Computers, Inc., has been installed in 18 North American libraries during the past few months. GeoWeb is the public access solution available with Geac's ADVANCE and PLUS client/server library systems, and supports "Virtual Catalog" implementations from multiple library system vendors.

GeoWeb can be setup to limit access to material in the library's collection, or expand access to Z39.50-compliant resources available through the Web. GeoWeb supports simultaneous searching of multiple databases, access to electronic and multimedia resources on the Web, and patron self-service functions—including the ability for patrons to review their own circulation information, renew items, place holds, and submit Interlibrary Loan Requests. The libraries who have recently implemented GeoWeb include: Azusa Pacific University Library (California); Metropolitan Community College (Nebraska); Saint Joseph's University (Pennsylvania); El Camino College Library (California); Brevard County Library System (Florida); Carmel Clay Public Library (Indiana); Cumberland County Public Library (North Carolina); Mid-Hudson Library System (New York); Montclair Free Public Library (New Jersey); Merrimack Valley Library Consortium (Massachusetts); River Bend Library System (Illinois); East Baton Rouge Parish Library (Louisiana); Novanet Inc. (Nova Scotia, Canada); Kingston Frontenac Public Library (Ontario, Canada); Canadian Museum of Nature (Quebec, Canada); Public Works and Government Services Departmental (PWGSC) Library and PWGSC Translation Bureau (Canada); and Industry Canada (Ontario, Canada).

In addition to GeoWeb, Geac's graphical client/server products include GeoCat, a MARC cataloging client using standard Windows editing capabilities to streamline the cataloging process and GeoPac—a Z39.50 search tool used with GeoCat to assist with staff functions such as research and reference. GeoCirc, our circulation client, and GeoTech, our acquisitions and serials client, are currently in development.
