EOS International Releases GLAS @ccess Web OPAC module: enables libraries to give their patrons Web-based access to their online catalogs

(Carlsbad, CA. January 18, 1999) Electronic Online Systems (EOS) International announces the release of GLAS @ccess , a new Web-based Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC).

GLAS, (Graphical Library Automation System) is a comprehensive, Windows -based system for small to mid-sized libraries. Over 900 libraries worldwide are using GLAS to manage their collections and provide their users improved access to information.

GLAS @ccess is an easy-to-use browsing and searching tool for the World Wide Web. It enables libraries to make their online public access catalogs available via the Internet. The library's catalog can then be accessed by library users via graphical Web browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or NetscapeTM.

"By providing electronic access to a library's collection, GLAS @ccess enables libraries to make their information more accessible to their users," said Scot Cheatham, President and CEO of EOS International. "Imagine how easy it can be to search remote catalog databases right at your desktop."

GLAS @ccess offers a number of browsable indexes including: Subject, Title, Author, Series, Subject and Title Keywords, and other useful terms. A hit count is provided indicating the number of records available matching the Author and Subject index terms. Keyword and Field searching is available for those fields currently indexed in GLAS including: Subject, Title, Author, Added Entry, Call Number, ISBN/ISSN, Publisher, and Year.

All of the data in GLAS @ccess is searched and displayed dynamically in real time. This means that users get up-to-the-minute accuracy and library staff does not have to conduct a batch update to keep the catalog current.

GLAS @ccess' interface and setup options are user-definable. Text in the introductory screen can be tailored with such library-specific information as the name of the library and its hours of operation. A library can set up user capabilities such as the ability to view current activities, circulation status, as well as set user login requirements.

Additional features found in GLAS @ccess include: the ability to display cross references and reference notes in authority controlled browse indexes (Author, Subject, Added entry browses), Online Help, and standard Windows features including drop-down menus and cut and paste options.

GLAS @ccess is a Web-based product yet it does not require an Internet connection. It can be used internally on a TCP/IP compatible local area network or Intranet enabling libraries to give all of their patrons instant access to the library's information.

GLAS @ccess requires a Pentium 133 MHz or higher Intel processor or 100% compatible processor, 32MB of RAM, Microsoft Windows 3.1, 3.11, 95 or Windows NT , TCP/IP Protocol installed to establish a connection to the Internet for both the server and client workstations (optional), a graphical Web browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or NetscapeTM on the client workstation, as well as a Web Server such as Microsoft Personal Web Server or Microsoft Internet Information Server.
