Press Release: Sirsi Corporation [October 22, 1999]

Two West Virginia public library systems select SIRSI

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (Oct. 22, 1999) Two of the largest public library systems in West Virginia, the Cabell County Public Library and the Kanawha County Public Library, will replace their existing information system with Sirsi Corporation's Unicorn Library Management System. Officials at both libraries commented that the SIRSI system would enable them to provide increased service to users through its easy-to-use online catalog.

Located in Huntington, W.Va., a historic railroad city built along the Ohio River, the Cabell County Public Library has seven local branches. In addition, it is regional headquarters for affiliate libraries in four surrounding counties, an area with a total population of more than 200,000. Judy Rule, Cabell County Public Library director, commented, "Because we serve and share resources with so many affiliate libraries, we felt the SIRSI system was best suited to our needs. In addition to being very user-friendly, it enables users to confine their searches to the holdings of their home library or to search the holdings of all libraries in the system."

Located in Charleston, West Virginia's capital city, the Kanawha County Public Library has ten branches and a bookmobile that provides year-round service to all areas of the county. It has been honored several times by the Public Library Association for its programs and services. According to Linda Wright, Kanawha County Public Library director, "We chose SIRSI because it would help us continue to improve our customer service. SIRSI's online catalog will enable our users to become more personally involved with the library, whether they are accessing the catalog in-house or remotely. For example, they will be able to access their personal user records and place holds. In addition, the library will be able to place lists of bestsellers and other requested information in the online catalog."

SIRSI, the leader in library technology, is a privately held company founded in 1979, with headquarters in Huntsville, Ala. SIRSI uses the most advanced technology available to provide easy-to-use information systems for libraries, businesses and archives. With offices in major U.S. cities and subsidiaries in Australia, Canada, Latin America, the Middle East, the Peoples Republic of China and the United Kingdom, the company has established its Unicorn products as the leading client/server library information systems in the world.
