The Università degli Studi "Tor Vergata" of Rome today announced that it has selected the ALEPH500 library automation integrated system to replace its current library management system. Established in 1972, the Università degli Studi "Tor Vergata" comprises 6 faculties, and serves a population of about 20,000 students.
Atlantis will provide installation, data conversion and training, as well as first-level support. The new system will be operating by the second quarter of 1999.
ALEPH500 will replace a proprietary software on mainframe with a central catalog system with an initial licence of 20 full users and 30 OPAC web users.
For Atlantis, this is the second University in Rome to choose ALEPH as its library automation system. Erwin Linthout, Sales Manager of Atlantis, welcomes the 46th installation of ALEPH in Italy as another evidence of the system's up-to-date architecture and structure.
Asked to explain the reasons for selecting ALEPH500 after a careful process of examination, Dr. Gabriele Mazzitelli, Head of the Biomedical Library at the University, states:" One of the main purposes of the Università degli Studi "Tor Vergata", ever since its establishment, has been the development of an efficient and effective university library system. The University, following the suggestions of both the Computer Center and the library staff, has chosen ALEPH500 in response to its need for a product based on modern architecture, able to satisfy the requirements of complex libraries devoted to the exploitation of modern technologies. ALEPH500 proved the best answer to achieve the major priorities stated by the Commission in order to provide students and the whole scientific community of the University of Tor Vergata with a modern and efficient library system."
