Toronto, ON -- March 31, 2026. New BiblioApps enhancements from BiblioCommons bring the One-Click Experience into the everyday moments where patrons interact most with their library.
BiblioCommons continues to advance the One-Click Experience, a platform vision focused on making it easier for patrons to discover, access, and engage with the library from a single, connected system. With the latest BiblioApps enhancements, that vision is now more fully realized on mobile, bringing core library services into the moments where patrons are most likely to use them.
BiblioApps is not a standalone digital touchpoint for patrons. It is a connected extension of the full BiblioCommons platform, powered by the same discovery engine, data layer, patron identity, and personalization. Because it operates within the same ecosystem, libraries manage a single system, and patrons have a consistent, single experience. The result is a mobile experience that feels simple, familiar, and fully connected rather than separate.
When mobile is fully integrated, the library becomes part of the patron's daily routine. Timely notifications keep patrons informed, personalized discovery keeps the collection relevant, and quick access makes borrowing and event registration easier. The library is no longer something patrons need to seek out. It remains visible and accessible throughout the day, ready when needed.
One of the most immediate ways this comes to life is through push notifications. BiblioApps allows libraries to send alerts directly to patrons about holds, due dates, and account activity, with lock screen notifications providing timely updates even when the app is not open. With a single tap, patrons can take action right away. Thoughtful user onboarding explains the value of notifications before requesting permission, helping increase opt-in rates, while flexible preferences give patrons control over what they receive. This ensures communication stays helpful, relevant, and easy to manage.
Discovery on mobile has also been enhanced through an updated search experience that combines traditional search with Browse and Discover. Patrons can search for a known title or explore genres, formats, and curated collections through simple, intuitive navigation. Featured carousels and quick-access categories surface relevant content immediately, making it easier to move from intent to discovery without friction.
The redesigned home screen brings the most important actions to the forefront. Account activity, discovery pathways, and key features are easier to access, helping patrons quickly find what they need. For libraries using BiblioWeb, website content can now appear directly within the app, creating a consistent experience across channels and keeping important updates visible in the flow of everyday use. Content Promotions further extend discovery by surfacing relevant titles, programs, and resources directly within search results, item pages, and events. This ensures that discovery is not limited to what patrons search for, but rather guided by the library's expertise at the moment of intent. By connecting collections, events, and content within a single experience, libraries can increase visibility and encourage deeper engagement across their offerings.
BiblioApps also introduces deeper integration with mobile wallets, allowing patrons to add their library card to Apple Wallet or Google Wallet. This makes it possible to access their card instantly at service desks or self-check stations, reducing small but meaningful barriers and turning the phone into a simple, reliable access point for library services.
Currently in development, an integrated eReader and eListening experience within BiblioApps will give libraries a new way to bring discovery, borrowing, reading, and listening into a single, connected experience. For patrons, this means being able to continue reading or listening across devices, quickly return to in-progress or recently borrowed titles, and receive more relevant recommendations based on what they have already enjoyed. By extending the app beyond search and fulfillment, this initiative moves the library closer to becoming an ongoing reading companion, supporting engagement well beyond the moment of discovery.
Together, these enhancements demonstrate how the One-Click Experience translates into real, tangible improvements on mobile. Each feature is designed to reduce friction, simplify access, and strengthen the connection between patrons and their library, wherever and whenever that interaction takes place.
