The Library Corporation --February 27, 2026. The Library Corporation (TLC) is off to a productive start in 2026 with many first quarter announcements to share, including new software version general releases for both its CARL.Solution (2025 Release 2) and Library.Solution (v5.9) Integrated Library Systems; the receipt of a Platinum Modern Library Award for Library.Solution's LS2 PAC; and the launch of Nerd Rabbit News, a customer newsletter focusing on what's new at TLC.
CARL.Solution 2025 Release 2, which rolled out in December and is now installed and running in customer sandbox environments, brings updates to CARL.Connect Discovery that enhance the search and browsing experience for patrons with intuitive, Google-like searching that detects stop words and delivers the most relevant results first. Location-smart searching also ensures that materials available at the patron's current branch rise to the top of the search results automatically, even without logging in — making it easier than ever for users to find the right results at the right location, right when they need them.
Additionally, Release 2 brings enhanced password security for library staff accounts, including a minimum password length, password complexity requirements, logging of attempted logins, and account locking after several failed attempts. Enhanced password security for staff accounts protects against unauthorized access to patron information, reducing the risk of hacking attempts.
Frederick County Public Libraries (FCPL) is the first CARL.Solution customer to install Release 2 in production. "The upgrade was an easy one," shared FCPL director Aftan Francis. "And we're already enjoying increased flexibility with user ID tracking, column customization in User Overview, and less strict stop-word handling. (Hooray!)"
Library.Solution v5.9 enhances user experience with new features and improvements in LS2 Staff and LS2 PAC. Users with appropriate permissions can now manage hold requests more efficiently by declining holds, adding comments, replacing holds, and marking items as Missing. This version also allows printing and exporting of hold request details, with support for higher screen resolutions to enhance usability.
Additionally, LS2 PAC has been updated for improved WCAG 2.2 AA compliance, introducing a new Grid View that provides a concise summary of title information. Users can now easily navigate through databases with tab icons prominently displayed. Library.Solution v5.9 also introduces the Edit Title Format feature in LS2 Cataloging and new settings in LS2 Preferences to better handle MARC record data during import and searches.
These release packages continue TLC's development theme of software designed for operational efficiency based directly on customer feedback. TLC product staff work closely with customers to ensure the changes have the intended positive impact and meet customer needs.
As such, TLC is honored to once again receive a platinum distinction in LibraryWorks' 12th annual Modern Library Awards (MLAs) for Library.Solution's LS2 PAC.
TLC stands out not only for the improvements made to LS2 PAC with its latest software release, but equally for its customer support during upgrades. TLC scored highest in the customer service categories:
- Satisfaction with TLC: 9.27
- Quality of the service delivered by TLC: 9.09
One customer shared anonymously, "We feel as though they truly understand the way our organization works. As a result, there is no wasted time on explaining circumstances or history on the why; instead, we get right to work, finding solutions or working together on new projects. Hands down, the most responsive company I have ever worked with. The name of the game in public schools is collaboration, and TLC takes that to heart. We may be two different organizations, but we are on the same team. They are AMAZING."
"As libraries face added pressures and scrutiny across the nation, TLC stands firm in our mission to support them," said Annette H. Murphy, CEO and co-founder of The Library Corporation. "Our accomplishments noted here only begin to scratch the surface of the unparalleled services we provide our customers every day."
TLC values its customers and their feedback and has remained consistent in that philosophy for over 50 years. In response to customer requests for year-round learning opportunities, updates, and news, TLC launched the inaugural edition of Nerd Rabbit News on January 15th. The Nerd Rabbit — a grassroots mascot of TLC's annual user group, TLCU — has expanded its role beyond the conference to promote more content to customers more frequently. This once-a-month, at-a-glance roundup of TLC news for the month ahead includes webinars, events, useful tips, and the occasional customer story, all in one place, with links to anything customers wish to explore further.
For the remainder of the first quarter, TLC staff will be visiting several tradeshows across the country, sharing news about these software releases, showing off the award-winning accessibility features of LS2 PAC, and highlighting what the Nerd Rabbit is planning next.
