Hoopla Digital strengthens investment in product discovery solutions

Holland, OH -- September 30, 2025. Hoopla Digital, the only all-in-one digital media app for public libraries and their patrons, is reinforcing its commitment to empowering library partners through technological advancements with the launch of Hoopla for Developers, a public, library and vendor-facing documentation website for Hoopla Partner API endpoints. This new resource helps libraries and their technology partners get the most out of their integration by providing detailed Hoopla API documentation, including integration steps, security protocols, general guidelines, and more.

"In keeping with our mission to serve public libraries and their patrons, Hoopla Digital offers a variety of API endpoints that connect libraries with the most robust digital catalog available," said Bridget Page, Sr. Product Manager, Product Discovery, at Hoopla. "We want our partners and potential partners to understand and feel comfortable with our API and developed this website to further enhance collaboration and open the door for future integrations."

Hoopla for Developers includes information on endpoints for the Hoopla Partner API:

  • Global Contents – allows partners to have access to everything Hoopla has to offer
  • Library Entitlements – allows the partner to see what a library does or does not own and unlocks important efficiencies when used in tandem with Global Contents
  • Authentication – generates a unique bearer token for full data access
  • Content Extraction – retrieves Hoopla title metadata; once a partner transitions to Global Contents and Library Entitlements, this endpoint is no longer needed
  • Content Information – provides additional data points related to the availability of an individual title license
  • Patrons – manages patron interactions with a library catalog—specifically titles
  • Search – allows the retrieval of real-time search results from Hoopla, based on a specific search term

In addition to launching Hoopla for Developers, Hoopla recently partnered with Libero, by Knosys, a library management system and mobile library app, to leverage Hoopla's API. With the Libero 6 release, libraries can now access their Hoopla Instant and Flex titles through their catalogs via API integration. This partnership enhances the experience for library partners in Australia and New Zealand by providing greater discoverability and expanded choices for members. With a single, integrated search result, members can now seamlessly search, view, and borrow titles from each publisher.

Both initiatives highlight Hoopla's ongoing commitment to provide library partners with advanced tools for seamless integration of Hoopla with library catalogs. "Expanding product discovery and strengthening API integration remain top priorities for Hoopla," said Michael Holton, VP of Product Management. "These recent developments reflect our dedication to delivering the best possible experience for libraries and their communities."

These strategic investments build on recent collaborations with Solus and its Library App and ByWater Solutions to integrate Hoopla's full content collection into public library catalogs, enhancing discoverability and improving the patron experience.

As part of Hoopla's continued engagement with the library technology community, Bridget Page will represent the organization at AspenCon. She will co-present with Yanjun Li, Developer at ByWater Solutions, on October 8 at 2:00 p.m. The session, titled "Flex-ing Our Collaborative Muscles: Hoopla, ByWater, & the Aspen Community," will explore the impact of cross-organizational collaboration on innovation and user experience. Hoopla is also honored to serve as an Innovator-level sponsor of the event.

Hoopla is available in more than 10,000 public libraries across the U.S., Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, including Chicago Public Library, San Francisco Public Library, and Los Angeles Public Library. To access content on Hoopla, cardholders of participating libraries can download the free Hoopla mobile app on their Android or iOS device or visit hoopladigital.com.
