The ByWater Solutions team came together for a three-day staff retreat in Des Moines, Iowa, earlier this month, where we focused on collaboration, innovation, and strengthening team connections.
Throughout the retreat, we worked closely across all departments, breaking into targeted groups to tackle key initiatives. Some of these included streamlining our implementation process to improve efficiency, using the in-person time to focus on speaking skill critiques for the Educators, and reorganizing workflow processes for the data team. Our systems team focused on ways to make Koha and Aspen run faster and more reliably by leveraging the tools available through Cloudflare, and our developers talked about upgrade processes for both Aspen Discovery and Koha to create smoother, more predictable experiences for our library partners. We also made significant progress on our new ticketing system, identifying ways to improve internal workflows and better support our partners' needs. On top of all this, we were able to resolve nearly 200 support tickets in a single day! This time together allowed us to make important decisions more effectively and strengthened communication across teams.
In addition to the focused work, the retreat provided a rare and valuable opportunity to connect in person with colleagues from across the country and spend some much-needed time together. We were able to visit our partners at the beautiful Des Moines Public Library and received an amazing tour during our time there. It was a productive and energizing experience that reinforced our shared goals and dedication to the libraries we serve. We look forward to our partners being able to see the fruits of our labor as we roll out these new initiatives.
