Chicago, IL, and Oslo, Norway -- November 15, 2024. The Center for Research Libraries (CRL) has selected TIND ILS as the new platform for its Print Archives and Preservation Registry (PAPR), advancing CRL's ability to support the global library community in the sustainable management of collective print collections. This marks CRL's third implementation of TIND products, a partnership that began in 2023 to reinforce CRL's commitment to preserving essential resources and facilitating long-term access.
Originally developed in 2012 together with the California Digital Library (CDL) and funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, PAPR was designed to address the challenges of print serials management by creating a comprehensive collective repository of serials holdings from participating North American libraries. PAPR functions as a ‘data lake,' collecting and consolidating holdings across participating members to support the preservation and management of print serials.
TIND ILS' flexible and customizable metadata structure allows CRL to manage a wide range of records and metadata fields while maintaining high standards of data consistency, combined with powerful batch processing tools. The intuitive search and discovery tools within TIND ILS further amplify CRL's capacity to deliver precise, accessible information on serial holdings, empowering libraries to make strategic, data-informed decisions in their preservation efforts.
"We're thrilled to work with TIND to enhance PAPR," said Amy Wood, Director of Discovery & Technology at CRL. "TIND's infrastructure, along with its powerful search functionality and data management tools, will not only improve the user experience but also expand the ways libraries can access and utilize PAPR's unique resources. TIND's commitment to ongoing development will help ensure that PAPR remains an essential tool in print collection management."
