Frank Vrancken Peeters, Chief Executive of Springer Nature, said:

"Our colleagues make us who we are as a company, and I am incredibly proud of the diverse, equitable and inclusive culture that we have built under Gregor Karolus's leadership across his 27 years with us and thank him for all that he has done to establish Springer Nature as a leading employer.

"I am delighted, however, to welcome Maria to the team. We are a purpose-driven company where all colleagues are supported in their personal and professional ambitions as we work together to be part of progress. With her wealth of experience Maria will be instrumental in reinforcing this culture and commitment further, and I look forward to working with her to achieve that."

Speaking of her appointment, Maria Castresana commented:

"I feel honoured to join Springer Nature and to work with so many talented colleagues in the pursuit of scientific progress and information integrity. The leadership and values of Springer Nature that I have already experienced, speak to my own.
