Dublin, OH -- 8 October 2024. Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory Library (Fermilab) has selected OCLC's WorldShare Management Services (WMS) as its library services platform to enhance its services and better serve its users.
Fermilab Library, located in Illinois, is a renowned research institution specializing in high-energy physics supporting a worldwide community. As a vital resource for scientists, engineers, and researchers, the library plays a crucial role in supporting the pursuit of knowledge and innovation in the field.
WorldShare Management Services (WMS) is a comprehensive set of library management applications and services built on an open, cloud-based library services platform. Fermilab Library will be live with WMS later this year.
With the implementation of WMS, Fermilab Library will improve the user experience. The new platform offers advanced electronic cataloging, resource-sharing capabilities, and analytics, allowing the library to efficiently manage its collections and provide seamless access to resources for its users. This means faster, more accurate searches and a more streamlined borrowing process, all designed to enhance the user's journey through the library's resources.
WMS is built on WorldCat, the most comprehensive global network of library data. This integration enables Fermilab Library to contribute to and benefit from the collective knowledge and resources shared by libraries worldwide. By leveraging the power of collaboration and information sharing, libraries can help individuals find the answers they need to solve problems and drive innovation.
"OCLC is excited to partner with Fermilab Library," said Eric van Lubeek, OCLC Vice President, Global Library Services. "We're confident that the implementation of WMS will enhance the library's services and capabilities, enabling it to continue its important role in supporting scientific research and discovery."
