The University of Canterbury (UC) Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha Library of New Zealand will begin the transition to adopt the FOLIO Library Services Platform (LSP) with hosting and service support from EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO). UC will join the more than 100 libraries and library systems that have gone live with EBSCO FOLIO and will become the second in Oceania to move to the open source LSP.
UC's decision to adopt the open source solution comes in response to their exploration of the digital era's impact on libraries, reinforcing their efforts to remain relevant to researchers in an increasingly technological age. UC seeks to provide a contemporary learning environment that embraces modern pedagogies, facilities and learning technologies while supporting transdisciplinary research that addresses local and global challenges.
UC prioritizes providing access to state-of-the-art research, equipment, facilities, and e-infrastructure, amplifying its commitment to streamlining and automating business processes with a humanistic touch. Alignment to these core values was vital in the decision-making process when partnering with EBSCO and when adopting an open source, flexible and future-focused system like FOLIO.
EBSCO Information Services Vice President of Sales for Oceania, Brett Wilson, says FOLIO's growing global community fosters the open source initiative by bringing libraries of diverse backgrounds together. "The University of Canterbury Te Whare Wānanga o Waitaha's choice of EBSCO FOLIO is an exciting addition to the open-source library services platform community in Oceania. FOLIO's diverse and global nature provides a voice to adopters worldwide, matched with EBSCO's enterprise-grade hosting, implementation, support and services."
EBSCO FOLIO's ability to easily integrate with other library systems will help UC library create better library workflows and patron services. UC will leverage BiblioGraph to transform its library's catalog to BIBFRAME for better visibility online. Additionally, UC will use OpenAthens for single sign-on for faculty accessing their administrative environment in FOLIO and EBSCO Discovery Service & LOCATE (EBSCO's OPAC). UC will also utilize GOBI Library Solutions from EBSCO (GOBI Library Solutions) for the library's book selection and acquisitions.
