Evansville, IN, and Oslo, Norway -- April 14, 2023. The University of Southern Indiana (USI) is now live on the TIND Institutional Repository (TIND IR) and has fully integrated TIND IR with its existing TIND ILS install. Running both products in a single platform, USI has improved the discoverability of IR content for library users via catalog and discovery layer searches and established meaningful links between related IR and ILS records.
According to Becca Neel, Assistant Director for Resource Management & User Experience at the David L. Rice Library, USI's migration to TIND IR was a smooth process thanks to their prior experience with TIND's metadata structures and conventions: "Our IR migration was an absolute breeze since we already had the ILS configurations in place and are familiar with TIND's metadata structures and conventions. We're thrilled to have our ILS and IR on a single platform, which has improved the discoverability of IR content for library users and allowed us to establish meaningful links between related IR and ILS records."
During the migration process, the library team identified several metadata issues in their IR records. Fortunately, TIND's batch edit function made easy work of those corrections, enabling the team to quickly resolve any issues. USI now looks forward to further utilizing the TIND platform on future projects.
"In spring 2023, USI's Scholarly Open Access Repository (SOAR) will serve as the hosting site of the Indiana College English Association's new peer-reviewed journal, Indiana English," said Neel. "TIND's deep system flexibility afforded us the opportunity to pursue this partnership without taking on unsustainable workloads, processes, or training. We're excited to watch the journal grow and explore methods for optimizing access via the IR."
