Announcing historic support for Annual Conference in Mexico

Westford, MA. Excitement and anticipation are building with only a few weeks until the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA) convenes in Mexico City for its 51st annual conference. Meeting for the first time outside Canada and the United States, the conference will make ARLIS/NA history. The organization hopes it is the first of many gatherings in Mexico as it fully embraces its North American identity.

The planning committee has produced a stellar program showcasing the work of arts information professionals across Mexico, Canada, and the United States. The annual meeting provides the opportunity to share expertise, forge meaningful bonds, and champion the arts information profession. Taking advantage of the Mexico City venue, the program is replete with events, tours, and sessions highlighting Mexican culture and its rich artistic traditions. Keynote addresses include presentations by Sol Henaro (curator, researcher, and active member of the contemporary art scene in Mexico), Alejandro Cartagena (Mexican-based photographer of social, urban, and environmental issues in Latin America), and Dr. Barbara Mundy (scholar of visual cultures in the Americas, particularly at the intersection of Native peoples and colonial settlers).

The conference theme, Transformación, reminds and, indeed, demands that ARLIS/NA meet the challenge of change. As ARLIS/NA anticipates and prepares for its future, the society is committed to championing the importance of engagement with the visual arts, to celebrating the unique value that ARLIS/NA members bring to the arts information field, and to recognizing the existential value of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of its work.
