Charlotte Mecklenburg Library goes live on TIND Digital Archive

Charlotte, MI, and Oslo, Norway -- March 10, 2023. The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library has successfully gone live on TIND DA, migrating more than 15,000 historical images from a locally developed DAM solution. After selecting TIND DA due to its outstanding user experience and powerful metadata editing tools, the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library is excited to leverage the platform to make historical content accessible to the public, including videos, local newspapers, and historical artifacts.

TIND DA is managed by the Robinson-Spangler Carolina Room, a department in the Main Library, housing historical and current information on Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and North Carolina. Among the highlights in the archive so far is the oldest known map of Charlotte. This hand-inked sheet measuring 4 by 5 feet, drawn in 1855, is a much-requested item among library patrons, now readily available through TIND DA.

Another important project for the library has been making available more than 800 issues of Mecklenburg County's largest Spanish-language newspaper, La Noticia, dating back to 2007. John O'Connor, the Robinson-Spangler Carolina Room Leader, talks about the importance of the project:

"This is a new partnership for the Library, moving to collect news for a far more diverse population in our County that would not have been possible without TIND. This was a project that had been in the works for nearly 3 years, and choosing TIND for a modern DAMS was a key part of that vision. We're very excited to have such a rich collection of Spanish-language materials for this community."
