OCLC -- 02 March 2023. Kathryn Becker recently joined OCLC as the second editor-in-residence for the Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) system. Kathryn will hold this position through 11 August 2023, and will focus on LGBTQIA topics within the DDC, as well as contribute to regular editorial work.

When asked what the deciding factor was in choosing a topic of focus for her work, Kathryn said "I decided to focus on [LGBTQIA topics] because it is important for people to be able to find information—possibly about themselves—in an accurate grouping, and not a grouping of outdated thought."

Diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) has been an important focus of OCLC for many years. The DDC offers several areas of opportunity for improving classification structures for underrepresented communities across the world.

Kathryn recently received her MLS from Texas Woman's University with a concentration in cataloging and technical services. Prior to this, she worked in education for more than 10 years.

Kathryn and her husband of 30 years have lived on both coasts of the United States, as well as Italy and Singapore. She has two adult children, who live and work in Texas, and one pasta-loving Italian dog.
