ByWater Solutions develops Sort to Light connectivity for Koha

ByWater Solutions, America's forefront provider of Open Source library technology support, announced the development of integration for Sort-to-Light Technology with Koha ILS. Sort-to-light is a semi-automated sorting technology that allows libraries to ship materials without requiring a label to indicate the item's destination. The Massachusetts Library System uses Optima's sort-to-light operations to efficiently move materials to all libraries.

Kyle Hall, Director of Development & Operations, worked directly with the team at the Massachusetts Library System, Cape Libraries Automated Materials Sharing (CLAMS), and Optima Shipping to learn more about their library resource sharing, shipping dynamics, and consortial needs to integrate Sort-to-Light with Koha. Kyle wrote the patch in Bug 31236 - Add the ability to send custom item fields via SIP using Template Toolkit, creating this connection.

Nate Curulla, CRO, ByWater Solutions recently commented on the development

We are thrilled to partner with Sort-to-Light for the integration of their solutions with the Koha ILS. One of Koha's major strengths is the flexibility and lack of barriers for integrating third party products and we are excited to have this connection in place for the rest of our mutual library partners.

About Cape Libraries Automated Materials Sharing (CLAMS)

Cape Libraries Automated Materials Sharing (CLAMS) is a non-profit, cooperative association of libraries on Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket, that share resources through a computer network with terminals located in each member library. The use of a single CLAMS library card allows patrons to borrow books and other materials from all member libraries. The shared system gives library cardholders access to over 1.6 million items including books, magazines, and non-print resources. Savings are achieved through the cooperative development of library collections. Technical support and training is provided to member libraries and their staff from a central site. Delivery between CLAMS libraries is made possible through the Massachusetts Library System (MLS).
