Dayton, OH -- October 3, 2000. Lexis-Nexis, a leading provider of online information solutions to legal, business, academic and government professionals, today announced Veracity, a new service designed to deliver access to real-time, customizable news for the business Web site market.
A highly sophisticated content solution, the Veracity service provides access to the best in up-to-the-minute news and business content--enhanced by such features as rights management, topical selection and publishing tools—while allowing individual Web sites to maintain their consistent look and feel.
Veracity provides customization capabilities, indexing and topical content selection, and access to content directly from Web sites, intranets, and extranets. In addition, Lexis-Nexis intends to integrate video content into the Veracity service through an alliance with Virage Inc., an Internet video management and delivery platform provider.
"Veracity provides our customers' Web sites with access to the most relevant and trusted information available in an easy-to-use format," said Bill Pardue, Lexis-Nexis president and CEO, U.S. Corporate and Government Markets. "One of the most important aspects to successfully establishing businesses on the Internet is providing access to quality content, and no one has more content than Lexis-Nexis. With Veracity, we give our clients the edge in their respective fields by helping them be more useful and informative."
The Veracity service enables Web businesses to enhance the commercial value of their Web sites by providing access to superior content filtered to meet customers' specific needs, ultimately increasing traffic and stickiness.
Rich, Reliable and Relevant
Veracity offers users access to news and information from more than 1,200 Lexis-Nexis sources based on the client's customized criteria. The sources include media such as CNN, Fortune, The Daily Telegraph of London, Japan Times, Associated Press, American Banker, Computerworld, Chemical Week and other leading business and trade media. In addition, the Veracity service's complete customizability enables clients to filter out any unnecessary information, topics or sources, so that users get the exact information they need to make the best business decisions.
Veracity builds on the recent launch of nexis.com, the Lexis-Nexis flagship research service for business information and decision support. Both the Veracity and nexis.com services utilize Lexis-Nexis SmartIndexing Technology, a powerful and proprietary tool that categorizes and organizes the Lexis-Nexis database, allowing customers to find more relevant results.
Veracity will be generally available late in the fourth quarter and will succeed the current Lexis-Nexis news service Tell Me More. The service will be priced similarly to Tell Me More.
Lexis-Nexis is working with industry leaders, such as Siebel Systems and Virage, as it implements Veracity. Siebel Systems (Nasdaq: SEBL) is the world's leading provider of eBusiness application software. "Lexis-Nexis is a pioneer in the online industry and continues to set the standard for high quality news and information," said Andy Zoldan, vice president of .COM Products at Siebel Systems. "We announced a strategic alliance with Lexis-Nexis in June to enable our mutual customers to obtain up-to-date intelligence briefings on a company, prospect, competitor, or topic. Veracity will give us new opportunities to expand that alliance and address a variety of customer needs."
Multimedia Capability
In addition to continuously updated news from the Lexis-Nexis services, Veracity will also provide video news and information through an alliance with Virage. "Our partnership with Lexis-Nexis on Veracity will accelerate the availability and use of video-based information across a broad range of professional and enterprise markets," said Carlos Montalvo, vice president of Marketing for Virage. "We are excited to be teaming up with Lexis-Nexis on Veracity and the integration of video in the near future. Through this integration, Lexis-Nexis is raising the standard in the Web content market by enabling the unified search of contextual and video content."
A Heritage of Product Innovation
