Today, we're excited to announce a partnership with Baker & Taylor, the world's premier distributor of books and digital content. This new partnership will enable academic and #publiclibraries to access the Ground News platform, empowering patrons and students to evaluate news sources, understand #mediabias, and think critically about current events.
"Academic and public libraries are trusted institutions that need tools for their patrons and students as they access information in a world increasingly filled with misinformation, disinformation and fake news. Ground News is an innovative tool that will help libraries meet this challenging moment as they serve their communities." - Aman Kochar, President and CEO of Baker & Taylor.
At Ground News we process around 60,000 news articles a day and gather related stories in one place so readers can compare coverage in real time. Every article on Ground News is accompanied by a bias and factuality rating system derived from independent news monitoring organizations. Knowing the bias of a media outlet helps Ground News readers understand how and why a story is being framed a certain way, while the factuality rating provides insight into the #reporting practices of the publication.
"What librarians and educators love most about Ground News is that it promotes critical thinking. We provide access to diverse sources and organize information in a way that's easy to digest so that readers can practice discernment and become active participants in their information consumption." - Harleen Kaur, Founder and CEO of Ground News.
For academic and public libraries, offering #medialiteracy tools is of increasing importance. Through the Ground News and Baker & Taylor partnership, participating libraries will be able to offer their students and patrons access to both the Ground News website, browser extension and app using their library credentials. Participating academic libraries will also have access to educator administrator tools.
"As colleges and universities put greater emphasis on media literacy, Ground News is a timely and valuable tool to support instruction in the classroom, in the library, and throughout campus. Ground News helps students become informed, well-rounded, and active citizens by teaching them how to use critical thinking to evaluate sources, and to consider various viewpoints on an issue." - Michael Walmsley, Baker & Taylor's Vice President for Academic Services.
As we move into this exciting and critically important space, we are thankful for the librarians, professors, and teachers who reached out to share their thoughts on how our platform could be a valuable tool for students and educators. We are excited to work with our partners at Baker & Taylor to serve this community.
