10 June 2020. When Faculty of 1000 launched in 2002, we were excited to offer a research recommendation service that was curated by the most respected minds across the globe. This was unlike anything else out there and we were delighted to find that the research community took to the concept so quickly. As the product evolved and we brought Biology and Medicine together our Faculty of 1000 became F1000Prime.
Following the recent acquisition of F1000Research by Informa Plc, we decided this was the ideal opportunity to rebrand ourselves with a name that reflects our purpose and vision for the future. After a lot of soul-searching and brainstorming, we feel we have found a name that will resonate with our Faculty Members, users, and the scientific community – Faculty Opinions – that places our esteemed panel of experts front and center.
This launches an exciting chapter for our service, and we are excited about the future of Faculty Opinions. With our new name comes a streamlined focus of building on our foundations to create a real alternative to the Journal Impact Factor and a better way of assessing the quality of researchers' contributions. This is, perhaps, the most important unsolved task facing the research community.
What does this mean for our current users?
- In the short term, our product won't change at all: So, you won't lose any of your filters, searches or selections – the only thing that is changing is our name and logo.
- This change is effective as of April 12th, 2020. After this date, for a few months, the web address of your account domain will automatically redirect, but you should bookmark facultyopinions.com in your browser.
- Going forward, throughout 2020 and beyond, we have many exciting plans that will not only enhance the current service but also offer new ways to help you discover and assess the validity of scientific research.
Thank you for joining us on our journey and remember to stay tuned on our social channels and newsletters for upcoming updates.
