DUBLIN, Ohio, 14 January 2022. OCLC's entire suite of Capira library services—CapiraMobile, CapiraCurbside, CapiraReady, LendingKey, and MuseumKey—have all been recognized with LibraryWorks 2022 Modern Library Awards, including several platinum awards.
The Modern Library Awards were created to recognize the top products and services in the library industry. Judges are customers with experience with these products and services in their libraries.
CapiraMobile, a platinum Modern Library Award (MLA) winner for the third consecutive year, makes it possible for users to interact with their library through their mobile phones. The customizable app lets users engage with their library and learn about events, services, and resources conveniently through their phones. Libraries can send notifications about new programs and promotions, allow users to search the catalog, and support self-checkout and digital library cards through CapiraMobile.
CapiraCurbside, which also received a platinum MLA, makes it easy for libraries to connect users with physical library materials without the need to enter the building. This solution seamlessly integrates with library systems as well as Capira's mobile apps and allows libraries to communicate with users about when materials are ready and how to pick them up.
LendingKey received a platinum MLA and is the premier Library of Things reservation and management solution that gets a library's non-book items—like a camera, or a croquet set—into users' hands.
CapiraReady, a ready-to-launch, off-the-shelf mobile app for libraries, was awarded a gold MLA. And MuseumKey, which allows libraries to simplify museum pass reservations through a library's website and lets users browse a responsive calendar by museum or by date, received a silver MLA.
"We're grateful to our customers who judge these products on the basis of performance in their own libraries, and to LibraryWorks for this recognition and these awards," said Bart Murphy, OCLC's Chief Technology and Information Officer. "As the pandemic has continued, these products have extended the reach of libraries and helped to get resources into the hands of customers. We have continued to evolve our products and services so that we can offer flexible solutions and ensure libraries can use the technologies they need to best serve their communities."
The Modern Library Awards were created to recognize the top products and services in the library industry in a truly unbiased format. Products and services were submitted in the fall using a simple application, and then were posted on a private site with an enhanced description and attendant materials. These products were batched into small groups and sent to the LibraryWorks database of more than 80,000 librarians at public, K-12, academic, and special libraries. Only customers with experience with these products/services in their facilities were permitted to judge the products/services, resulting in a truly unbiased score. Each judge scored the product on a numeric basis from 1-10 on a series of questions regarding functionality, value, customer service, etc.
