Press Release: MAIN Libraries [December 21, 2021]

MAIN Libraries eBooks on the Move

Cedar Knolls, NJ – MAIN Libraries, a northern New Jersey shared services consortium of 49 public libraries, has announced a new platform solution for eBooks, eAudiobooks, and eMagazines: Libby.

Starting January 3, 2022, library card holders at MAIN member libraries can download and use their library card to access thousands of digital titles shared between all 49 libraries.

"Offering one app – Libby – to access all three types of content is going to be much more convenient for library users than accessing multiple apps," said Phillip Berg, MAIN Executive Director. "Improving access to library services and sharing our collective resources with one another is at the core of all libraries' missions."

In order to start using Libby, library card holders can either download the mobile app or on desktop/laptop computers visit: https://libbyapp.com/library/mainlib Users will then be prompted to search for their library's name and then enter their library card number.

Due to the large size of the shared collections, the over 75,000 titles will be transferred over the course of a week in early January.

As people increasingly read and listen to books on their smartphones or tablets, they are discovering one of the best resources is their local public library. Named one of Popular Mechanics' "20 Best Apps of the Decade," Libby seamlessly connects first-time users and experienced readers with digital collections. This locally selected collection includes bestsellers, new releases, classics, and everything in between. Readers of all ages can select from virtually every subject ranging from mysteries to romances to business development.

Readers may browse Libby, instantly borrow titles, and start reading or listening for free with a valid library card. This service is compatible with all major computers and devices, iPhone, iPad, and Android phones and tablets, and Chromebook. The minimum supported version of iOS is 10. Through Libby, readers can also "send to Kindle." All titles will automatically expire at the end of the 14-day lending period and there are no late fees. Readers can also download titles onto devices via the Libby app for offline use.
