Lean Library, a browser extension from SAGE Publishing that delivers library services directly into the patron's workflow, is pleased to announce its partnership with EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO), leveraging EBSCO Discovery Service. The partnership will give libraries the ability to deliver relevant search results from their library to patrons ‘in the workflow', on academic resources and websites including Google Scholar.
A direct integration with EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) enables patrons to query their library search from within the Lean Library browser extension, instantly returning relevant results where and when they need them. Examples include surfacing library search results alongside a Google or Google Scholar search, within Wikipedia, on publisher websites, and more.
Sally Gibson, Director of Missouri Western State University, said: "The EDS integration with Lean Library Futures will allow us to surface library content and search where our students and researchers need it – in their preferred workflows. Rather than asking our patrons to come to us, it really allows us to take the library to them – in a way that gives our patrons complete control. We think this will significantly increase usage of EDS, and our collection, as well as reinforcing the value we can bring to our patrons."
Matt Hayes, Managing Director of Lean Library, said: "Most students and researchers now begin their discovery process outside the library – on open discovery tools like Google Scholar. But these tools, whilst convenient, don't give library patrons access to the precision search and curated browsing offered by the library's discovery service. Not to mention exposure of the library's print collection. This integration gives library patrons the best of both worlds – the best-in-class tools of their library delivered in the convenience of their preferred workflow – driving usage of library search and increasing the impact and visibility of the library."
EBSCO Information Services Senior Vice President of Product Management Timothy Lull commented, "We are excited that Lean Library can break down the barriers to effective access and quality discovery, regardless of where students and researchers begin. This new EDS integration follows the integrations we already have in place with Lean Library to support access, helping libraries provide the best pathways for their patrons in their preferred workflows."
The EDS/Lean Library integration is available to existing EDS customers as part of the new service Lean Library Futures. The EBSCO and Lean Library product teams will host a webinar showcasing the integration on Wednesday, June 9th: sign-up is available here.
