Westminster Public Library Extends Community Outreach with NovelBranch from TLC•SmartTECH

The Library Corporation (TLC) is pleased to announce the successful implementation of TLC.SmartTECH's NovelBranch mini library kiosk in collaboration with the Westminster Public Library (WPL) in Westminster, CO, at two local recreation centers. The library has been delighted to extend community outreach with the NovelBranch units, providing circulating library materials through an easy-to-use, self-service kiosk.

Located just northwest of Denver in Jefferson and Adams counties, WPL has launched the NovelBranch kiosks within the lobbies of the Westminster City Park Fitness Center and the West View Recreation Center. The library worked closely with staff at both TLC.SmartTECH and the rec centers to coordinate and fully install the library machines during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to provide additional library service to the Westminster community beyond the library walls.

The units have been a popular option for Canadian libraries and community centers since 2003, and WPL is one of the first libraries to go live with the NovelBranch in the United States. "It has been excellent working with the staff at Westminster Public Library to bring the NovelBranch kiosks into their community, into Colorado, and into the country," said Rhia Stark, Digital Engagement Manager at TLC and acting project manager through the WPL NovelBranch installation. "Their community has already started to share in the excitement, and we look forward to seeing their continued outreach success."

The library has been pleased to be on the forefront of this innovation and has marveled at the simplicity and ease of use of the machine. "I've been astounded," stated Jean Ward, Application Specialist at Westminster Public Library, "you turn it on, and it just works."

Veronica Smith, Technology Coordinator at Westminster Public Library, shared the sentiment: "This is so perfect! It's self-contained and we don't need someone there every hour the rec center is open."

The library has branded their NovelBranch units as the Rec & Read to highlight the outreach partnership created through the process, and as an easy to remember tagline for library and rec center patrons. The City of Westminster will be celebrating an official launch of the Rec & Read kiosks in June to coincide with Free Fitness Week at the recreation centers and the start of the library's annual Summer Reading program.
