As digitalisation progresses, it is evident that library patrons will start to adopt new ways of using the library and become increasingly demand-driven. LIBERO's new Member Services Area was developed with customer input, featuring many new and enhanced functions.
Of particular importance in this context is the digital library card. Comparable to the storage of bank or loyalty cards on mobile phones, the trend is also making its way into libraries. With the help of LIBERO, patrons will soon access their digital membership card via the LIBERO Omnio app or the browser, making it more convenient to borrow items, especially if library patrons forget their membership card. Besides, libraries can decide whether to provide their members with either a printed card or a digital version. As a result, libraries save on printing costs and also take the next step towards sustainability.
Furthermore, a revised and modern layout based on the LIBERO Omnio Search theme makes the Member Services Area easier to use on desktop and mobile devices. Important dates are displayed clearly and comprehensibly via a member timeline so that patrons have an overview of recent loans or can see if membership renewal is due. The most flexible forms for re-registration and enrolment of members feature in the system.
Moreover, a much improved "My Activities" area, which displays loaned items with cover images, will help patrons identify materials that become overdue or need renewal.
All communication with patrons and the management of fines and fees now reside within the Member Services Area, too. All payments go through a secure online system, which is a relief for staff and will significantly streamline their work. In addition, all member messages are now in one place, enabling a member to access notifications of overdue items or fees conveniently.
The marketing to library patrons is also simplified. Libraries can directly send members information about upcoming events or new collections within the members' area. Each member has the option of simply deciding how they want to receive notifications. Moreover, members can easily update their contact details themselves, which reduces the workload for librarians.
The new Member Services Area is available to LIBERO clients worldwide and comes in several languages, including English, German, Arabic, Italian and Japanese.
