Kanopy Partners with Schweitzer to provide streaming video services to libraries throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland

San Francisco, CA -- March 17, 2021. Kanopy, a company committed to streaming high-quality films that inspire, educate and entertain, has secured a strategic partnership with Schweitzer Fachinformationen, a leading reseller of library products and services. Under terms of the agreement, Schweitzer will distribute Kanopy's streaming video services to its vast network of libraries throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland as well as Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Libraries in these regions can offer their patrons a growing selection of more than 15,000 thought provoking films, many of which are only available on Kanopy. Academic libraries benefit from multiple models to strategically meet their budget requirements including Patron Driven Acquisition (PDA) where films are only purchased if used, Firm Ordering and Perpetual Access, all with variable pricing that makes films more affordable depending on their duration, subject, supplier and popularity. Public libraries can offer Kanopy under an affordable and sustainable pay-per-use model.

"Streaming video usage among libraries in DACH and BENELUX has skyrocketed largely due to the pandemic and stay-at-home orders, and we expect this trend to continue well past COVID," said Philipp Neie, CEO of Schweitzer. "To keep pace with this demand, we are excited to offer Kanopy's unique films, many of which are diverse, inclusive and equitable, to our library communities and the people they serve."

"Schweitzer is a very well-known and respected brand with an enormous footprint among academic and other libraries in Germany and other nordic regions," said Kevin Sayar, Kanopy's CEO. "By partnering with Schweitzer we can quickly and efficiently expand in this market while providing customers with a higher level of service. We are excited to continue to partner with resellers like Schweitzer to grow our business globally."
