Atlanta, GA -- March 2, 2021. LYRASIS, a global non-profit membership organization providing technology and content services for galleries, libraries, archives, museums (GLAMs), and research communities is excited to announce that Broward County Library (FL) will become the first large public library to adopt Skilltype, a software platform for information professionals and their teams to analyze, grow, and share expertise, through an exclusive partnership.
Broward County Library is home to more than 700 employees across 38 branches and serves a population of 1.9 million residents in Broward County, Florida. As the latest member of Skilltype's early adopter program, Broward County Library becomes a leader in equitable access to professional development, while promoting upskilling opportunities during times of budget austerity. Skilltype is unique as it focuses on the skills and knowledge required and acquired in libraries, archives, and museums and also allows for individual librarians and library employees to play an active role in their own career development. Beginning February 1, there will be a staged rollout across the library system.
Broward County Library is also an active user of the LYRASIS Learning platform, a repository of all classes provided through LYRASIS. LYRASIS Learning is a planned development with Skilltype, so that libraries with subscription to both services, will be able to access them on the Skilltype platform.
LYRASIS and Skilltype announced an exclusive partnership in September 2020, leveraging the unique offerings of the Skilltype software for staff development and the global reach of LYRASIS as a nonprofit partner.
Lisa Larson, Senior Director of Outreach and Engagement at LYRASIS, says of the partnership, "It's exciting to bring together these two dynamic partners. Broward County Libraries has long been a leader among public libraries, and their adoption of Skilltype signals their commitment to their staff and community. Skilltype, likewise, is an innovative platform that will help the Broward County Libraries stay ahead of the curve with skills and expertise. And as a Broward County resident, I'm equally thrilled to see what this partnership can deliver to the wider community as well."
Allison Grubbs, Interim Director of Broward County Libraries, says of the new partnership, "Broward County Libraries is dedicated to delivering cutting-edge technological innovation to its customers. We are enthused that Skilltype is a platform that will facilitate our mission to bring professional development skills and information to our staff and to the communities we serve."
Skilltype CEO Tony Zanders commented, "Public libraries have long been leaders in building the future of professional development in librarianship, as exemplified by Broward County's adoption of our software platform. We are excited to begin supporting this dynamic, service-oriented segment of our community."
