London, 23 November 2020. The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining chose Koha for its new library management system earlier this year with PTFS Europe providing implementation, on-going hosting and support services.
Koha now efficiently manages the Institute's world-class library collection of materials, minerals and mining materials including a number of items of historical interest such as works by Sir Henry Bessemer. The capabilities and efficiencies offered by the new open source solution allows the Institute to consolidate their information offering and deliver an improved service to its users.
Koha Library Management System
The Koha library management system is a completely web-based application providing staff and public users with access to the system through web browsers. The system comprises core modules: acquisitions with EDI, circulation, cataloguing, serials and comprehensive reporting functionality. The Koha online catalogue (OPAC) offers end users excellent search capabilities together with a full range of personalisation services. Koha's depth of functionality continues to develop to meet the changing needs of libraries and their users.
Katherine Williams, Head of Content at IOM3, said "Koha allows users to discover our breadth of content, meets the IOM3 Library business requirements and allows us to deliver a superb service for our users".
Lesley Jones, Business Development Manager at PTFS Europe, stated "We are delighted that the Institute selected Koha and we welcome them as new customers. They will be joining our diverse and growing base of Koha customers from across the UK and Europe who are hosted and supported by PTFS Europe."
The Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) is a major UK science and engineering institution whose activities promote and develop all aspects of the Materials Cycle, from exploration and extraction, to characterisation, processing and application, to product recycling, repurposing and reuse.
