Press Release: Coherent Digital [October 2, 2020]

First library-oriented, virtual-reality database launches

Alexandria, VA -- October 2, 2020. Today Coherent Digital LLC launched Mindscape Commons, the first database of virtual-reality experiences for libraries. Mindscape Commons details nearly 200 immersive and interactive experiences in social work, counseling, and psychology from over 100 colleges and 60 commercial organizations. With 100 experiences exclusive to this resource, it's designed specifically by faculty and mental health clinicians to be immersive and interactive. Continually updated, it covers a diverse range of resources, from Stanford University's "Becoming Homeless" VR experience, to immersive client case studies, to virtual home assessments for social workers.

Stephen Rhind-Tutt, President of Coherent Digital, said, "Until now, VR experiences have been truly "wild." They're difficult to find, difficult to catalog, and difficult to deploy. Mindscape Commons changes all that—so that quality virtual experiences are easy to locate and integrate into libraries, and making the experiences available across an institution is effortless."

Mindscape Commons allows faculty, librarians, students, and practitioners to discover, upload, preserve, and share a wide range of virtual-reality experiences to deliver substantially better teaching, learning, and treatment. Many of the experiences need no more than a laptop, with optional use of mobile phones or Oculus devices to go further with the augmented reality.

"VR increases empathy, engagement, and motivation, and it provides a safe and repeatable environment for training. This combination of immersion and interactivity improves learning and client outcomes and is becoming increasingly important to our profession," says Allen E. Ivey, EdD, Professor Emeritus, University of Massachusetts Amherst.

"I'm most excited about the specially commissioned interactive experiences," said Elizabeth Robey, Publisher at Coherent Digital. "They deliver intense, interactive personal experiences while students are remote—something that's crucial when it's difficult to do in-person instruction."

Registration is free, and many resources are openly available. Institutional membership offers full access and additional tools and support materials. Find out more at mindscapecommons.net
