London, UK -- October 1, 2020. Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, is pleased to announce that the University of Cape Town (UCT) Libraries in South Africa have selected the Ex Libris Leganto course reading list solution and have begun the rollout of Leganto to academic staff. Leganto is integrated with the Ex Libris Alma library services platform and Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery tool.
Leganto presents UCT Libraries with the opportunity to align their teaching and learning strategy with that of the University's Vision 2030 Plan. Among the Plan's strategies are the adoption of transformative pedagogies, the continuous renewal of curricula, and the establishment of strong partnerships between the library, teaching staff, researchers, and students.
UCT has made a significant financial investment in the Library and its collections. Leganto is envisioned as the innovative tool which will optimize the visibility of and demonstrate the return on investment in information resources made by the University. The Leganto solution strategically positions and raises the visibility of the library in the student digital learning space. By transforming a static traditional course reading list to a dynamic and interactive one, Leganto facilitates immediate access and eliminates the need for students to conduct time-consuming searches in the library catalogue and databases to find the materials required for their academic work. Leganto becomes the means by which an engaging partnership between the academic, the library and students is proactively fostered. Furthermore, the Leganto data analytics capability provides academic staff with rich data to assess, tweak and reimagine their reading lists to enhance the teaching and learning experience.
"We are excited to be embarking on our Leganto project. The Leganto tool will breathe new life into our reading lists, for more stimulating teaching and authentic learning," commented Ujala Satgoor, Executive Director: University of Cape Town Libraries. "Connecting access with success often requires extended support throughout a student's academic life. We believe that the Leganto reading list solution will help us provide that support for an enriched academic and intellectual experience for every student."
Ofer Mosseri, corporate vice president and general manager of Ex Libris EMEA, said, "We are delighted to welcome University of Cape Town Libraries to the Leganto community. The integration of the Leganto solution with the Alma platform and Primo discovery tool will both enable academic staff to easily create dynamic reading lists and provide metrics on reading list content usage, information that will assist UCT Libraries regarding future purchasing policies and other business decisions."
