Press Release: Evergreen Project [September 21, 2020]

Evergreen Hack-A-Way moves online

The Evergreen community is proud to announce that the ninth annual Evergreen Hack-A-Way will be conducted entirely online using the Hopin (hopin.to) platform. More robust than a simple meeting platform, Hopin allows for participant-driven events that are both pre-planned and that allow attendees to create their own sessions on the fly. Traditionally the Hack-A-Way has been held in-person. The current COVID-19 situation has presented the community with an opportunity.

"The Hack-A-Way was actually started so that devs could work in person without the online barriers they have the rest of the year," said Rogan Hamby, founder of the Hack-A-Way, "but it has become a part of the Evergreen ecosystem and the development calendar. With an online event lowering the barriers for attendance, we realized we could accommodate attendees that would not have attended the event traditionally."

Free registration for the event is available at: https://hopin.to/events/evergreen-hack-a-way-2020

Questions should be directed to rhamby@equinoxinitiative.org

The Hack-A-Way follows on the Evergreen community's busy and successful Feedback Fest week in late August. Nineteen software improvements were committed to core Evergreen, 28 proposed software additions were tested and approved, 33 new or reworked software additions were offered for consideration and 19 new bug reports were documented by the 40 participants. In addition, Evergreen community members provided 133 other forms of feedback on the software.
