Press Release: Koios [August 29, 2020]

Koios announces leadership transition

New York, NY: Koios, the company that manages free Google advertising for public libraries, is announcing a transition in company leadership. On August 1st, Peter Velikonja, Head of Research, succeeded Trey Gordner as the chief executive at Koios. Gordner, Koios' founder, has stepped back to enroll in graduate school, and will become a part-time advisor.

Velikonja has been handling Koios' Big-Data processing since 2017, keeping accounts in compliance, analyzing data, and maintaining a large number of Google Ads—currently over 10 million and growing—for clients. He was a professional classical musician, earned a Ph.D. from Princeton, and spent over 20 years in the software industry before joining Koios. (https://www.linkedin.com/in/peter-velikonja-99666622) Gordner explains: "If you don't already know Peter, he has been the driving force behind our most successful initiatives. I am confident that, under his leadership, Koios will continue to help you and your colleagues navigate a complex future."

"It's not really Big Data, it's more like Medium Data," Velikonja quips. "Koios is in a unique position to show librarians what people outside of the patron base are searching for. We're equipped to help show the public some of the great value that libraries bring to their communities." Koios places free ads at the top of Google search results, enabling their library clients to reach potential users at their point of need. The company helps libraries to raise awareness, increase usage, and change perceptions—reconnecting public libraries with the public.

About Koios

Koios helps libraries show up first in local Google search results. It's among the small, elite group of Google Ad Grants Certified Professionals, and is the only one that specializes in libraries. The company was founded in 2014 when Trey Gordner merged his digital marketing expertise with his passion for public service. Koios' mission to help libraries show up online stems from the team's vision of free and democratic access to all human knowledge. The company was named after the Greek titan Koios (sometimes spelled Coeus), who sought to gain knowledge in order to anticipate the future. The purple tree logo, with a book at its roots and pixels in its branches, represents the transformation of libraries from analog to digital. For more information, please visit www.koios.co.
