Press Release: Follett [March 21, 2020]

With at-home learning increasing, Follett offers interactive ebook platform for free to schools

MCHENRY, Ill., March 20, 2020 — As the number of school closures mount due to the spread of COVID-19, Follett today announced it is partnering with Weigl Publishers, Inc. to offer Lightbox, a PreK-12 interactive ebook platform, and AV2 World Languages, a K-3 ebook program, free of charge to schools worldwide through June 30.

Bringing learning to life, Lightbox uses video, audio, and text to explore content aligned with national and state standards and is ideal for student at-home use. With more than 1,000 high-interest titles in subjects such as science, language arts, and mathematics, Lightbox fills curriculum gaps while providing a fun, engaging, student-centered learning experience to improve comprehension, vocabulary, and engagement.

Each of the Lightbox titles features learning reinforced through slideshows, activities, quizzes, vocabulary, and at-home printable worksheets, as well as Google Maps to provide further context. Anne Marie Doyle's elementary school uses Lightbox, and she is most impressed how the titles meet students at their interest level.

"Students love them and are definitely engaged longer than with a traditional book," said Doyle, library media specialist at Dunn's Corners School in Westerly, R.I. "Students today are already immersed in technology, and this is another way to make books more exciting for them. Activities and extensions are all age-appropriate and engaging. I love that Follett was cognizant of various learning styles when developing Lightbox."

Ideal for visual learners and striving readers, AV2 World Languages is a collection of 1,000 audio ebooks comprised of 100 high-interest titles in 10 languages. The program creates an immersive language-learning experience while supporting diversity and multiculturalism.

Those interested in the free offer should register here. Lightbox and AV2 World Languages can be accessed by educators, parents, and students on all devices. No special set up is required, and support is available by calling (815) 759-1700.

"As learning continues to transition to homes, we understand the importance of giving educators, parents, and students as many eLearning options as possible," said Britten Follett, executive vice president, Follett School Solutions. "We are gratified to work with Weigl and its CEO Warren Rylands to make Lightbox and AV2 World Languages available to students worldwide."
