Press Release: Lyngsoe Systems [March 6, 2020]

Sacramento Public Library has become the first U.S. institution to opt for Lyngsoe Systems' Intelligent Material Management System

Aars, Denmark. Lyngsoe Systems is pleased to announce that The Sacramento Public Library has become the first U.S. institution and the first institution outside Europe to opt for Lyngsoe Systems Intelligent Material Management System. Sacramento Public Library will integrate IMMS with their Sierra Integrated Library System from Innovative, a ProQuest Company.

The Sacramento Public Library has served the people of Sacramento County for more than 150 years. While time and trends have changed the delivery of library services over the last century and a half, the library has never changed its commitment to providing those services with excellence and professionalism.

Sacramento Public Library staff strive every day to exhibit the organizational values of trust, integrity, respect, and excellence, whether they are assisting a patron with a reference question, answering questions about electronic resources, vacuuming a community room, leading a toddler storytime, checking in and shelving materials, delivering a bin of requested items, recommending a great read or delivering one of the more than 3,900 programs delivered annually. Their overarching goal is to provide a breadth and depth of programs, services, and materials that prepare young children for school, support ongoing student success, and create lifelong learners. Utilizing the latest technology, the library bridges the digital divide, providing nearly 600,000 hours of access to digital content annually via 870 public computers and laptops. IMMS complements Sierra and creates an unprecedented level of transparency in the material flow. Utilizing the latest tools for data collection, material management, and logistics, items can be floated according to specific profiles to the branches requiring it, without risking depleted or overflowing shelves in other areas of the system, greatly enhancing the number of different titles available for the patrons. IMMS greatly increases the quality of data and empower the staff to make evidence-based decisions. IMMS also helps prevent and/or detect handling errors and supplies accurate and detailed reports on item use and placements.

Rivkah Sass, Library Director & CEO of Sacramento Public Library, states:

"Sacramento Public Library is thrilled to be the first U.S. customer to implement IMMS. Because of our budget, we are always on the lookout for tools that enable us to meet customer needs and make maximum use of our collections. IMMS will do just that, enabling us to know exactly where the items customers want are located and ensure a realtime distributed float throughout our entire library system."

Henrik Kjeldgaard, Business Unit Director from Lyngsoe Systems, states:

"We are very happy that Sacramento Public Library has engaged further with Lyngsoe Systems in a very significant way with selecting IMMS on top of the Automated Material Handling already in place. Being the first in North America to choose IMMS puts Sacramento at the forefront of using evidence-based, curated collection management, and showcases paperless, automated floating collection and holds management processes. Patrons will experience an improved availability of the exciting materials the library offers, and the shelves will be filled, but not overflowing, so all together an even better customer experience than Sacramento already offers its patrons. Sacramento Public Library is already an institution other libraries look towards for inspiration, so we are proud to add this forward-thinking library to the global list of IMMS customers, and show how digitization and automation makes a library even more indispensable to the community as a key enabler of life-long learning by making knowledge available, where and when it is needed."
