The Library Corporation applauds The Lexington Public Library (LPL), for being recognized by the Library Journal as a 2019 Five-Star Library. This is the library's first time receiving such a distinction.
A customer of The Library Corporation since 2004, Lexington Public Library has seen numerous achievements in recent years, including record circulation numbers of over 3 million items in 2017. Lexington Public Library went live with CARL.X in December of 2018 and since launch, Lexington Public Library has used CARL.Connect Staff to add flexibility for library staff members whenever—and wherever—patrons need assistance, throughout all their branch locations. CARL.Connect Discovery is distinguished by its focus on user experience, making it easy for patrons and staff to access LPL's collection. Full integration with OverDrive facilitates a seamless user experience when searching for eResources from within CARL.Connect Discovery, allowing users to download or place a hold without leaving the catalog.
"While many factors go into our five-star rating, CARL makes it easy for community members to discover and access library materials. Features like responsive design, automatic renewal, and OverDrive integration empower our customers and enhance traditional and digital circulation totals," said Tonya Head, Director of Access. "TLC is a valued partner in innovation as we work to provide timely and relevant services to our community."
The five-star rating is formulated using physical circulation, electronic material circulation, library visits, program attendance, public internet usage, and Wi-Fi sessions. 2019 was the first year Wi-Fi sessions were included as a metric. With 842,264 Wi-Fi sessions last year, the Lexington Public Library has one of the highest Wi-Fi usages of libraries in the state.
"It is always such a pleasure to see TLC's customers making such an impact in the communities they serve," said TLC's founder and CEO Annette Murphy. "Knowing that our products play a supporting role in this achievement is what has driven us to continually strive for a level of excellence in our products and services since we began TLC over 45 years ago."
TLC congratulates Lexington Public Library on their recognition and we look forward to continuing our partnership of providing forward-thinking library services.
