Press Release: The Library Corporation [August 22, 2019]

With surging circulation figures, Berkeley Public Library migrates to TLC’s CARL.X

The Library Corporation (TLC) is pleased to announce that Berkeley Public Library (BPL) in California migrated to the CARL.X integrated library system, taking advantage of the fully hosted service model that TLC offers to customers.

BPL is among America's Star Libraries according to the Library Journal, and consists of five locations that together make it one of California's most heavily used systems. In 2018, BPL patrons checked out 2,038,220 items—an increase of 45,345 from 2017.

"Our CARL.X and CARL.Connect platforms will support BPL's surge in circulation," said Don West, Director of Operations for TLC's Denver office and CARL operations. "Our goal is to ensure we help in fulfilling [BPL's] mission to provide excellent, timely, and easily-accessible services and information to their community."

The CARL.X ILS focuses on a user-centered design that appeals to many libraries, including BPL. According to BPL, an Innovative Interfaces customer since 1991, the switch to TLC in January was predicated on recommendations from TLC's current customers about their exceptional reputation for unmatched customer service.

"We are pleased the new Integrated Library System (ILS) will provide an enhanced user experience that responds to community and staff requests made over the last few years," said Alicia Abramson, Manager of the Berkeley Public Library Information Technology Division. "Our partnership with the CARL.X team and their responsiveness enables us to better serve our community."

Annette Murphy, CEO of The Library Corporation, stated that "each and every one of our services are intended to work directly for librarians and their patrons. We are especially proud to have Berkeley Public Libraries as part of our family here at TLC."
