Dallas, TX -- June 20, 2019. Voyager Sopris Learning today announced the winners of its LANGUAGE! Live Literacy Acceleration Grant program, which was created to help districts increase literacy achievement in struggling students. Recipients will receive at least six months of Voyager Sopris Learning's LANGUAGE! Live, an award-winning literacy curriculum proven to help struggling readers and writers achieve grade-level reading expectations.
The 10 grant winners are:
- Adams County School District 14; Commerce City, Colo.
- Banning (Calif.) Unified School District
- Beaufort County School District; Beaufort, N.C.
- Center School District #58, Kansas City, Mo.
- Eastchester (N.Y.) Union Free School District
- Fowler Elementary School District; Phoenix, Ariz.
- Midway Independent School District; Henrietta, Texas
- Poway (Calif.) Unified School District
- STEM School Highlands Ranch; Highlands Ranch, Colo.
- STRIVE Prep Federal; Denver, Colo.
According to Jodi Connelly, teacher at Adams County School District 14, she applied for the grant to help "elevate the reading levels and attitude toward reading of the students in our 4th and 5th grade classes. Students at our school are improving, however the more opportunities we can provide for them the better they will be able to see how reading can be fun, engaging and allow them to achieve their dreams."
"Regardless of why students struggle, it is critical to intervene in a timely way with research-based solutions," said Ileana Q. Rowe, senior vice president of marketing, Voyager Sopris Learning. "It is our hope these grants help make it possible to close the reading and writing achievement gap, without additional budget expense to districts and schools."
LANGUAGE! Live blends the best of online instruction with the important aspects of teacher-directed instruction to empower struggling learners and close the reading and writing gap. Proven effective with a wide range of student populations, LANGUAGE! Live ensures accelerated learning; intensive instruction of foundational skills; and exposure to grade-equivalent standards, text and vocabulary to move students to reading independence.
