Historic Woburn Public Library expands; installing Tech Logic automated materials handling sorter and self-checkout

Massachusetts' historic Woburn Public Library will celebrate the grand opening of its renovated building on March 16, featuring state-of-the-art Tech Logic technologies for patron convenience and staff efficiency at its core.

Built by American architect Henry Hobson Richardson, the library opened in 1879 and is now listed on the National Historic Register. At the grand opening, the library will unveil a new, 2.5-story wing with 30,000 additional square feet. The $31.5 million building project offered the opportunity to implement RFID for self-checkout, staff check-in, item security, shelf management and automated materials handling.

Tech Logic's patented UltraSort automated materials handling system instantly checks in and sorts stacks of materials from the unique Throw & Go book drop. Woburn Public will employ Tech Logic's patented SmartBins, which sense material loads and auto-adjust floor levels to avoid damage to materials and support ergonomic unloading of bins by staff.

Woburn Public also added three self-checkout kiosks to expedite patron services. With Tech Logic's CircIT-powered self-checkouts, patrons can check out stacks of items simultaneously, review their account, and pay charges. Additionally, the CircIT FLEX interface can display library program information, ebook titles, social media feeds, or other library services for patrons.

Tech Logic is proud to be a part of this historical project - successfully combining the latest in library technology with the renowned surroundings of this one-hundred-forty-year old national landmark.
