Press Release: EBSCO Information Services [February 7, 2019]

EBSCO Information Services acquires leading library and research web platform, Stacks Inc.

Ipswich, MA -- February, 7 2019. EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) has announced the acquisition of Stacks Inc., a leading library and research web platform. EBSCO partnered with the company in 2016 to release Stacks, a hosted content management system for libraries. This acquisition reinforces EBSCO's commitment to providing library patrons with the best possible search experience and deep integration of resources.

Stacks technology is designed to simplify the process of creating online content for libraries. It is the first turnkey, responsive web platform with plug and play integrations and mobile apps connected in real time. Stacks allows libraries to market programs and services, manage event registrations and room bookings, conduct surveys and polls and create research guides. It also enables libraries to surface their collections and provide the best possible search and discovery experience and more.

President and CEO of Stacks Inc., Kristin Delwo, says the acquisition will significantly help libraries support users. "Our new relationship with EBSCO will help expand Stacks' reach to more libraries, helping them to create and manage a truly customized website. I'm looking forward to this opportunity with EBSCO and to continue our goal to revolutionize the library experience."

Mark Herrick, Senior Vice President of Business Development at EBSCO Information Services, says the acquisition of Stacks Inc. is a natural step for EBSCO to support the needs of libraries. "As one of the leading web platform vendors serving libraries, Stacks offers first-class features and technology. This acquisition is a natural extension of our working relationship, and we expect to expand these technologies and continue our goal of improving the library experience for users, as well as providing efficient, streamlined workflows and a robust user experience."

Moving forward, EBSCO will be looking at additional ways to improve the library user experience with Stacks. Founder and Chief Technology Officer at Stacks Inc., Chad Smith, says the proven leadership of EBSCO and the technology innovation from Stacks creates an ideal environment for developing the best library experience for customers. "EBSCO is a natural fit for Stacks as we work together to create a library experience that is responsive and robust. We look forward to working with EBSCO on the development of future technologies and features for Stacks and continuing to serve the needs of our customers."
