Port Hedland libraries start a new chapter in the cloud

Perth, November 12, 2018: The Town of Port Hedland is strengthening the role of libraries at the heart of its community with a cloud-based integrated management system. Civica's Spydus10 will help the WA council improve customer experience and increase citizen engagement.

Port Hedland is home to a broad range of arts, culture, sports and recreation programs. Spydus10 will make its two libraries more efficient and reach more members of the community. Designed with mobile devices in mind, the system offers personal recommendations based on previous reading and simplifies the checkout process with user-friendly dashboards. Civica will host Spydus10 in its secure data centre.

Making the local history collection available electronically is a key project for the Port Hedland library service. The aim is to celebrate and preserve the diverse community of Port Hedland and its surrounding areas. The libraries will achieve this using the Spydus10 archive and heritage management module.

"Libraries today play a bigger role than loaning books," Civica's Managing Director for Library and Education Solutions, Simon Jones says. "Customers expect to move easily between physical and digital service delivery.

"We work with many regional libraries, understanding their specific needs and delivering great experiences whether customers are in the library or accessing services remotely. We're excited to help the Town of Port Hedland write its next chapter."

About the Town of Port Hedland

Located 1,765km north of Perth in the Pilbara, the Town of Port Hedland is home to over 14,000 people and encompasses two residential and business centres, Port Hedland and South Hedland, the light industrial area of Wedgefield and the Aboriginal communities of Jinparinya, Marta Marta, Punju Njamal, Tkalka Boorda, Tjalka Wara and Yandeyarra.
