The American University of Beirut Joins ProQuest Dissertations and Theses Publishing Program

Ann Arbor, Mich., November 27, 2018 – The American University of Beirut, an esteemed teaching-centered research university in Lebanon and the Middle East, has signed an agreement to contribute its graduate works to the ProQuest Dissertations & Theses (PQDT) database, the leading database of dissertations and theses from the world's greatest universities. It's the first university in Lebanon to contribute to the database, expanding the breadth of international content in PQDT.

As a participant in ProQuest's dissertations and theses publishing program, the American University of Beirut will contribute its dissertations and theses, with publications dating from 1908 to present, into PQDT. With many available in full text, they'll be accessible by millions of scholars and researchers through the ProQuest platform, the Summon and Primo discovery services, Google Scholar, and more than 35 major subject indexes such as IET Inspec, Ei Compendex, PubMed, PsycINFO, ERIC, SciFinder and many others.

"ProQuest is proud that our partnership with American University of Beirut will make scholarly output from Lebanon accessible to worldwide researchers for the first time," said Rafael Sidi, Senior Vice President and General Manager of ProQuest Information Solutions at ProQuest. "This collaboration furthers our commitment to growing PQDT globally, and continues ProQuest's 80-year legacy of collecting, digitizing, preserving, curating, publishing and disseminating the world's dissertations and theses."

With 4.7 million dissertations and theses – 2.3 million in full text – PQDT is used by more than 3,000 universities around the world.

"Since its foundation in 1866, the American University of Beirut has been committed to our graduate students contributing to global knowledge and research," said Dr. Lokman Meho, the Library Director at the American University of Beirut. "The distribution of digitized retrospective and current graduate works through ProQuest Dissertations and Theses offers an attractive display to showcase our past and present scholarly output to global communities. Our researchers will appreciate enhanced visibility and new collaboration opportunities."

The American University of Beirut's teaching and research principles are based on the American liberal arts model of higher education – including freedom of thought and expression, creativity, critical thinking, personal integrity, civic responsibility and leadership. The university has more than 8,000 students and 800 faculty members.
