Kore University of Enna is now live with OCLC WorldShare Management Services

FLORENCE, Italy, 21 November 2018—The Kore University of Enna (Universitá Kore di Enna), the only private university in Sicily, is now live with OCLC WorldShare Management Services as its cloud-based library management system.

WorldShare Management Services (WMS) provides all applications needed to manage a library, including acquisitions, circulation, resource sharing, metadata and electronic resource management, and a discovery service for library users. WMS also includes a range of reports that help libraries better understand their activities and track key metrics over time.

The Kore University of Enna (UKE) was established by the Italian Government as a Free non-State University in 2005. It is one of only 18 private universities in Italy. Aerospace Engineering and Earthquake Engineering are both important areas of focus for the institution, offering Laboratory facilities and advanced teaching technologies for which UKE is renowned.

"The idea of becoming part of a global bibliographic resource such as WorldCat was particularly important to us at Kore University of Enna," said Alessandra Pecora, Library Director. "We were attracted by the extraordinary possibility of making our collections more visible to potential users, researchers and students the world over. By contributing our unique records to WorldCat, we feel we are part of the worldwide library community. And with the implementation of WMS, we can improve the quality of our services to our students and faculty."

By adding their records to WorldCat, the world's most comprehensive database of information about library collections, Kore University of Enna will increase the visibility of these collections around the world and support a variety of network services, such as global resource sharing. As part of the OCLC cooperative and with the WorldCat data as its foundation, WMS will enable the university to draw on this collaborative data and the work of libraries worldwide for more efficient workflows.

"Working in a shared environment, which helps to create and build relationships among the people and resources from libraries around the world, has given us the motivation to dive into this project with enthusiasm!" said Pecora.

"We are thrilled that Kore University of Enna has joined the WMS community. They are a modern university working with the most advanced pedagogical tools," said Eric van Lubeek, Vice President, Managing Director, OCLC EMEA & APAC. "With WMS, the university library is reflecting the same spirit of technological innovation seen across the institution."

About Kore University of Enna

The Kore University of Enna (Universitŕ Kore di Enna, or UKE) was established by the Italian Government as Free University on 2005. UKE is the fourth and last university founded in Sicily after those of Catania (1434), Messina (1548) and Palermo (1805). The Kore University of Enna is a free, non-state university. It is not governed by the state or by other public bodies, from which it receives only small contributions. The UKE is based on private and self-financing, the proceeds of the scientific activities and student fees. For this reason, spending is very careful and is always of high quality. The Kore University is based in Enna, a small but ancient city, capital of its province, situated above a mountain of more than 900 MASL, so that it is the highest town in Italy and one of the highest in Europe.

Enna is the geographical center of Sicily. And since Sicily is in the heart of the Mediterranean, UKE crosses equally north and south, east and west of the world. The Kore University of Enna is one of the most appreciated Italian universities. According to surveys conducted in an anonymous form by the AlmaLaurea Consortium in Bologna, UKE is among the first places in Italy for the high level of teaching and the quality of educational facilities. The Kore University covers two major areas: the Campus, with all educational and administrative services for students, and the Research Center, where the most advanced research is conducted. The Campus buildings are near each other, never more than 600 m, which places everything within a fine-minute walk. The quality of UKE is in the attention that it caters to their students. The welcoming, comfortable, fully equipped facilities that characterize the University of Enna are expressions of respect, as well as the relationships between students and teachers, and between staff and the academic community. Among the 18 private non-state universities, the UKE is the third largest in Italy for teaching staff and number of courses. The UKE is also the only Italian private university with a Faculty of Engineering and Architecture. The Kore University of Enna offers various undergraduate, master's and Ph.D. courses covering both the humanistic and the scientific as well technological fields.
