Flagstaff libraries improve workflow with new automated handling systems

Tech Logic is pleased to have partnered with Flagstaff-City Coconino County Public Library (AZ) to design and install custom automated materials handling solutions that include a 9-bin sorter, a 5-bin sorter, and new drive-up and walk-up book drops with conveyance at their Main Library and East Flagstaff Community Library branches.

Previously, the position of the exterior book drop at Flagstaff-City Coconino county's Main Library branch required library staff to go outside to empty it several times per day, even during the winter months. Tech Logic worked with the library and architects to design an addition onto the front of the library, which extends to the edge of the curb, housing a new drive-up "Throw & Go" book drop. The "Throw & Go" book drop allows patrons to quickly return stacks of items at a time.

Tech Logic also equipped the Flagstaff library system with state-of-the-art RFID technology. The new technology provides patrons with an option to use a self-check system to check out their items. It also allows staff to track materials using Tech Logic's award-winning CircTRAK Shelf Manager and security gates.

Conveyance connects both book drops to a patented 9-bin UltraSort AMH system, located on the second floor of the library. A 5-bin UltraSort was also installed at East Flagstaff branch by Tech Logic. The staff at Flagstaff is excited to use Tech Logic's new AMH systems, which feature ergonomic Smart Bins that raise and lower automatically, to allow staff easy access to materials without bending down.
