Evergreen 3.0 revolutionizes how library staff does business

The Evergreen community is pleased to announce the release of Evergreen 3.0, a major upgrade that will change the way library staff use and interact with Evergreen.

Evergreen 3.0 features a new staff client that can run in a web browser on a desktop, tablet, or mobile phone, helping libraries to better meet the high expectations of users. Bringing library services on the road has never been easier. Staff will use the same client interfaces on all devices, which are automatically optimized for whatever screen is in use.

Launched four years ago after the Evergreen community decided to switch to a new modern platform to support staff functions, the staff client project was a true community development project with contributions coming from over 60 individuals who use and support Evergreen.

"Evergreen began at PINES, and we are proud to see that it has continued to grow and develop beyond our initial goals to meet modern library needs," said Terran McCanna, Program Manager of Georgia PINES. "PINES library staff are eagerly looking forward to our January roll out."

In addition to an updated interface and a new way of doing business, Evergreen 3.0 adds many other features, including:

  • faster and more robust search
  • expanded Overdrive and OneClickDigital API integration with support for performing transactions from the catalog
  • public catalog support for linking to shelving location maps
  • digital bookplates
  • batch-editing of user records
  • enhanced support for using Evergreen across multiple time zones.

Evergreen 3.0 release manager Galen Charlton said, "Evergreen 3.0 is an ambitious release and represents the culmination of a multi-year effort by the entire community. It has been a privilege to help coordinate the efforts of many people and libraries to reach this goal. Both current and new users of Evergreen will be pleased with the results."

Evergreen continues to be the leading ILS for consortia and delivers local flexibility and granularity of policies that no other software can match. Evergreen 3.0 maintains robust performance on its open source PostgreSQL database and continues to deliver the most interoperability for libraries via its truly open APIs.
