The Public Libraries of Erie County Consortium selects Innovative to expand member library opportunities

April 13, 2017 -- Emeryville, CA. Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, is pleased to announce the Public Libraries of Erie County (PLEC) selected the Polaris integrated library system for collective use with its 12-location, seven-member library consortium in Pennsylvania.

Sharing an integrated library system between Erie County Public Library, Albion Public Library, Corry Public Library, McCord Memorial Library, Rice Avenue Public Library, Union City Public Library, and Waterford Public Library required a solution uniquely designed to handle the needs and roles of a consortium. Polaris, together with Community Profiles and the Polaris Leap Web Application, provided a complete next-generation solution. The Erie County Public Library acts as the system administrator for PLEC Consortium.

Member libraries mutually agreed that Polaris presented a highly intuitive experience for patrons and workflow efficiencies that enabled staff to operate more effectively on a daily basis. The PLEC also saw significant value in how Polaris Community Profiles and the Web Application facilitate connections between people and resources. This capability was especially important to Erie County Public Library, currently implementing a five-year strategic plan to connect people to information and interactions that improve their quality of life.

"Polaris is an excellent solution that easily accommodates the needs of all our libraries," said Rebecca Long, Erie County Public Library IT Director. "Community Profiles gives us incredible leverage to improve our outreach operations. Our staff loves how easy the Web Application is to navigate and how simple it is to create pick lists on the spot. Having these tools to expand community connections is very important and particularly relevant to our strategic plan."

Polaris Community Profiles allows member libraries to turn their PAC into an efficient, expanded community resource center for patrons. It features simple web-based tools that organizations can use to provide their own content and add web links to their own pages. The Polaris Web Application gives mobile access to the ILS from a notebook or tablet, freeing staff from their desks, so they can interact with communities far beyond the library building.

"Innovative is excited to form an open systems library partnership with the Public Libraries of Erie County," said Innovative CEO Jim Tallman. "Having frequented a member library as a child myself, I am especially proud to see how our technology solutions will help improve outreach, create impactful connections in this community, and connect them to new resources for growth."

Erie County Public Library and the Shared Catalog Libraries of Erie County migrated from a SirsiDynix Symphony solution and went live on Polaris in January, launching as PLEC. For more information on the value of Polaris for public libraries, visit the Innovative website.
