March 29, 2017 -- Emeryville, CA. Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of integrated library systems (ILS) that empowers libraries globally, is pleased to announce it has achieved the International Organization for Standardization certification for information security management systems (ISMS).
ISO 27001 is the best known certification for ISMS standards and is internationally recognized as a top tier certification. The scope of Innovative's certification covers the ISMS supporting the hosted and cloud infrastructure managed by Innovative's Cloud Operations team. For Innovative, that means the company's information security practices and hosted services have been certified.
"Our effort to achieve this certification represents Innovative's commitment to protecting the data of our library partners and their users," said Aaron Terrell, Chief Information Security Officer and Vice President of Engineering and Information Technology at Innovative. "The certification ensures that Innovative will be a continually evolving organization that meets top information security standards and that everyone in the company from customer support to executive leadership is committed to the same standard."
ISO/IEC 27001:2013 specifies the requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an information security management system. It also includes requirements for the assessment and treatment of information security risks tailored to the needs of the organization.
To achieve the certification, Innovative partnered with Schellman and Company, a Gartner 2015 Cool Vendor, with over 10 years of compliance industry experience. The rigorous certification process included on-site audits at the in scope locations of Innovative's international headquarters in Emeryville, CA and offices in Syracuse, NY to verify over 100 points of data control.
"Obtaining ISO 27001 certification is a tremendous achievement," said Ryan Mackie, Principal at Schellman. "There is no other compliance model that can demonstrate an organization's culture to ensure that it has properly identified and addressed its information security risk. Innovative produced a solid information security management system to do just that and their certification is another way to demonstrate their commitment to their library partners and the security surrounding their services and data."
