Corey Halaychik receives ProQuest Coutts Award for Innovation

CHICAGO—The Association of Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) Collection Management Section (CMS) is pleased to announce the recipient of the 2017 ProQuest Coutts Award for Innovation. Corey Halaychik, Assistant Professor and Head of Acquisitions & Continuing Resources at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, is recognized for his leadership in improving workflow management in both the licensing of electronic resources through the University of Tennessee master agreements program and for co-founding The Collective. The award recognizes significant and innovated contributions to electronic collections management and development practice. The recipient receives a $2,000 award generously donated by ProQuest and a citation. The ProQuest Coutts Award for Innovation will be presented on Saturday, Jun. 24, 2017, at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony at the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference and Exhibition in Chicago.

The master agreements program at University of Tennessee addresses processing issues for electronic resource management by breaking down bottlenecks created by lengthy negotiations over licenses and contracts. A master agreement, governing all subsequent purchases from a participating vendor, can eliminate costly hours of contract review and significantly speed up the purchase of library materials. These agreements further resolve historical access and management issues, while increasing holdings at more favorable pricing terms for the university.

Halaychick's work as co-founder and co-director of The Collective is transforming the way that librarians and archivists exchange information in a highly interactive conference setting. The conference fosters collaboration and focuses on affordability, hands-on participation and tangible takeaways for attendees.

The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) is the national association for information providers who work in collections and technical services, such as acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, preservation and continuing resources in digital and print formats. ALCTS is a division of the American Library Association.
