Evergreen brings search retrieval to a new level with the addition of a popularity boost to its ranking algorithm.
The addition of the popularity ranking, along with new badges that will display for popular titles in the catalog, is one of many new features in Evergreen 2.11.
Released on September 22, 2016, Evergreen 2.11 also features improvements to the patron's My Account experience, the addition of e-mail checkout receipts, and enhancements that will improve staff workflows in circulation and cataloging.
Mike Rylander, Release Manager for 2.11, has this to say about the new version, "As a community we should be very proud of the Evergreen 2.11 release. We're adding innovative features, making things easier for staff and patrons, and working together to make sure Evergreen is what libraries need for the future. With over 350 commits by more than 30 authors of code and documentation, this release continues the Evergreen tradition of high participation and consistent improvement."
With the new popularity badges, Evergreen libraries will have the ability to identify the type of user activity that should qualify a record to earn a popularity badge. Circulation activity, holds activity, and total number of copies on a bib record are just a few of the factors that can be used to generate a badge.
Those activity factors will boost a record in search results rankings, improving the user experience in finding the materials they need.
Evergreen 2.11 also brings libraries one step closer to a web-based ILS with the addition of reporting and administration interfaces in the new client. Circulation and cataloging functionality are already available in the web-based staff interface.
The web client will allow staff the freedom to perform their work wherever their job takes them, on a desktop or tablet on any operating system.
The new release, which is the 2nd major enhancement release for 2016, contains significant increases in Spanish and Czech translations.
Evergreen 2.11 is a result of code, documentation and translation contributions from 31 individuals representing 17 organizations in the Evergreen community, along with financial contributions from five Evergreen sites that sponsored development.
Evergreen continues to be the leading ILS for consortia and delivers local flexibility and granularity of policies that no other software can match. Evergreen 2.11 maintains robust performance on its open PostgreSQL database and continues to deliver the most interoperability for libraries via its truly open APIs.
