Emeryville, CA—Innovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, is proud to announce its new partnership with Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative (FALSC) to deliver a next-generation library software solution in support of its statewide consortia initiative.
This initiative will bring together all state-funded higher education institutions on one library system, including all community colleges and every public university in Florida. FALSC has selected Sierra for its open architecture and ability to deliver collaborative, personalized, sustainable, and adaptable capabilities. Sierra will also support the challenges facing the large academic consortium and its individual institutions for resource sharing.
The libraries will migrate from their Ex Libris Aleph system onto one shared Sierra cloud service solution, fulfilling FALSC's vision for a next-generation integrated library system.
"Bringing together forty institutions of varying sizes is challenging, and our selection committee sought out a trustworthy company that delivers on forward-thinking technology for consortia," said Ellen Bishop, Director, Integrated Library Services at FALSC. "Innovative's vision for the future of our industry, paired with their product direction, mobile workflows, and real-time integration, aligns with our definition of a next-generation system, and we look forward to building a partnership that brings feature-rich functionality to the academic library landscape."
By selecting Innovative, FALSC will gain the ultimate end-user experience, with a more compelling discovery experience that offers increased visibility and accessibility for students. For staff, stronger technical services capabilities include more efficient workflows and robust resource sharing, especially with joint-use facilities. The method of configuration also played a key role in FALSC's decision, due to the wide range of library sizes joining the consortium. Each member library will have access to personalized dashboards, tailored reporting and analytics, and the ability to manage staff privileges.
"Innovative understands how transformative this initiative will be for students and faculty of state-funded higher education institutions, and we are very excited to partner with Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative to provide an extensible solution that meets their needs today and serves their strategic goals for the future," said Bill Schickling, Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing at Innovative.
With Innovative's partner strategy, FALSC has the ability to influence future product development efforts, becoming a collaborative, trusted voice for ongoing enhancements that are valuable for all Innovative consortia and their member libraries.
"This partnership demonstrates our ability to provide ideal solutions for large-scale consortia and further proves that Sierra dominates as the solution of choice for academic libraries," said James Tallman, Chief Executive Officer at Innovative. "We believe FALSC's decision to select Sierra will tremendously impact academia in the state of Florida, and we welcome them to the Innovative family, joining other statewide library consortia, like LINK+, MOBIUS and OhioLINK, who continue to excel as Innovative partners."
With Innovative's open systems philosophy, the community has easy access to connected resources, information, events, and services, from multiple starting points. Additionally, Sierra REST APIs and integration with third-party vendors in the market will enable FALSC to better serve Florida students.
"Having all of our colleges and universities running on one shared Sierra system will not only provide greater access to our statewide resources, but will be immensely beneficial for higher education in Florida as a whole, and we expect our students to flourish in our new, collaborative, environment," said Bishop.
The Florida Academic Library Services Cooperative is comprised of forty institutions and 156 campus libraries, sharing a statewide collection of online journals, e-books, and other valuable electronic resources. In total, FALSC's products and services serve more than 1.3 million students, faculty, and staff across Florida, with more than 75 million searches and 2.8 million library materials checked out annually.
