John Cabot University in Rome selects OCLC WorldShare Management Services

LEIDEN, Netherlands, April 22, 2015. John Cabot University, an American university located in the heart of Rome, is the first in Italy to select OCLC WorldShare Management Services as its library management system.

WorldShare Management Services (WMS) provide cloud-based library management and discovery applications in an integrated suite. WMS offers librarians a cost-effective way to manage workflows efficiently, and improve access to library collections and services for their students, faculty and staff.

"Ours is a very special library, with a two-fold mission: we need to expose and connect our patrons to the best of American scholarly resources, and we must improve networking opportunities within the Italian library community. WorldShare Management Services provides the ideal infrastructure for our international faculty, students and staff," said Elisabetta Morani, Head Librarian, John Cabot University.

"We are currently using WorldCat Discovery Services as our end-user discovery interface, and it has already improved the visibility of and access to our collections. Its full integration with WMS will revive, in an innovative way, the role of the catalog as a gateway to all library resources—a role that has been seriously threatened by the explosion of digital collections that can be difficult to manage. I'm confident that this integrated approach will be beneficial to all our back office workflows," said Morani.

John Cabot University is located in Trastevere, Rome, and is a member of the American International Consortium of Academic Libraries (AMICAL), which brings together 26 institutions of higher education located in 21 countries across Europe, West and North Africa, the Middle East, Central and South Asia.

"OCLC is delighted to welcome the first institution based in Italy to the growing WMS community," said Eric van Lubeek, Vice President, Managing Director, OCLC EMEA & APAC. "John Cabot University has already been working with OCLC to achieve the library's objectives for resource discovery, and we are excited that they recognize the value that WMS can bring to their institution for sharing infrastructure, applications and innovation in the cloud."

Today, more than 325 libraries worldwide are using WMS to share bibliographic records, publisher and knowledge base data, vendor records, serials patterns and more. By sharing data and work across many member libraries, WMS offers libraries cost savings, workflow efficiencies and the ability to deliver more value to their users.
